Goodman

E8

Lockout

High-fire PS stuck closed

High-stage pressure switch is made with the inducer not on high.

Walk E8 in Diagnose

7 plates — walk the one on the cabinet

First check

1 Prove the switch is made with inducer not on high

On Goodman GMEC96 this code means the high-fire switch is closed when it should be open. Do not treat it as the low-fire stuck-closed code. Write the live display, then unplug the high-fire switch only.

Expect: Code should change when the high-fire harness is open.

If fail: IFC input shorted or you unplugged the wrong switch.

The rest of the walkthrough is Diagnose.

On the plates

  • This is the second switch — do not confuse with E1.
  • Welded HPS or water-filled hose.
  • IFC calling high when it should be low — W2 shorted to W1.
  • Second switch — do not treat as E1.
  • W2 shorted to W1 on 24V fallback.
