E3

Protect

Open high limit

A limit opened. Both blowers typically run until it recloses. Airflow or overfire — not a charge problem. Rollout is still a manual-reset hazard.

Walk E3 in Diagnose

9 plates — walk the one on the cabinet

First check

1 Airflow before you touch the limit

On Goodman GMEC96 a limit is airflow or overfire until proven otherwise. Do not replace the limit first. Filter, blower wheel, A-coil, and the heat-speed setting for THIS motor (tap, model plug, or communicating CFM — not a sister SKU chart). Which heat profile is landed? CT motors have discrete 24V taps — a cool tap left on heat will trip E3.

Expect: Heat tap: CT heat profile vs rise on the plate. Wrong tap = E3.

The rest of the walkthrough is Diagnose.

On the plates

  • Filter, blower wheel, A-coil, heat-speed tap (9-speed: wrong tap is the #1 callback).
  • Static vs blower chart for this cabinet size.
  • Manifold pressure on low and high vs rating plate.
  • Limit ohms after it cools — a limit that never recloses is failed.
  • IFC heat CFM setting, not a 9-speed tap. Filter, coil, return size.
  • Which switch in the string is open? Limit = airflow. Rollout = exchanger / burners / flue — manual reset, treat as hazard.
  • Manifold vs plate. Overfire trips limits with a clean filter.
  • Which heat profile is landed? CT motors have discrete 24V taps — a cool tap left on heat will trip E3.
