Electric heat limit / sequencer

Protect

Strip overtemp or sequencer failed

A heat-kit limit opened or a sequencer did not bring a bank on. There is no gas-furnace E3 on this machine — this is strip overtemp or a failed sequencer/relay.

First check

1 Is aux actually being requested?

On Amana AVPTC confirm W / E / aux at the indoor control. A heat-pump call with a communicating board that thinks it needs strips is a config / outdoor issue first. IFC electric-heat kW matches the installed kit. Wrong CFM on a 20 kW kit opens limits.

Expect: Aux request present only when it should be.

The rest of the walkthrough is Diagnose.

On the plates

  • IFC electric-heat kW matches the installed kit. Wrong CFM on a 20 kW kit opens limits.
  • Filter, coil, static. Strips in a brick duct will limit.
  • Sequencer / relay 24 VAC from the IFC when Htr is displayed. Open limit on that bank = overtemp, not a ‘bad E3 furnace code.’
  • Lugs and element ohms. A failed element is not a control board.
